This morning as I woke up I asked the Lord, what are we going to read today Lord? The Lord said Romans 6:9, okay, I said, I wish You would put back in me the desire and ability to write. I feel like I’ve lost all desire and even, almost the ability to write.
I sat down, looked up Romans 6:9 “because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will not die again. Death no longer rules over Him.” Hmmmm, I said, okay, I know this is good, gives me an understanding of how Christ Jesus conquered death, but how does this relate to me.
The Lord said, read it again, “because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will not die again. Death no longer rules over Him.” Now put it into your own context, “because we know that Christ having been raised from the dead will not die again. Death no longer rules over Him or His body who have died with Him in rebirth, baptism and dying to sin.”
Then it hit me this is part and parcel of our inheritance, our inheritance from Jesus Christ is that:
- death no longer rules over us, literally, death has no hold on us as we pass through this world into His eternal Kingdom which is His plan and purpose for us all ultimately. Rom 6:7 “since a person who has died is freed from sin.”
- We have the freedom to live in the world but not with it or from it, as all we need is from Him. Rom 6:6 “For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin.”
- If Christ will not die again, we have nothing to loose, not in this life or the next we can live all out for Him! With Him as our judge, with Him as our end game we can keep our eyes firmly on Him as our trophy in heaven, knowing one day we will hear the words we have waited and dreamed of “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” (Mat 25:21)
- If death no longer rules over our King and Saviour and His inheritance is ours, then surely, we can boldly declare, as I believe many of us have, Corona virus has no hold or effect on me. My King and my Saviour has numbered my days, not some disease, man-made or not. We live by faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7). Our inheritance, here according to Romans 6:9 “Death no longer rules over Him.” All promises to Jesus are promises to us, because as we died to self accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, the One that sits upon the throne of heaven. Who lived and walked in Nazareth and died once for all the sin of the world, then we have claimed His life, which is both for the here and now and for the eternity we long for. Therefore we can boldly and directly declare: “Death no longer rules over us!”
Come on Christians, let’s live by faith and not by sight (2Cor 5:7), let’s agree with the treaty of heaven made when Jesus Christ came to earth. All promises made to Him are made to His disciples because we are heirs of God and coheirs with Jesus (Eph 3:6)!
