Rest Focus

– God had all but given up on His people, rebellious, stubborn and almost destroyed by Him. In Isaiah 63:10 “But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit. So He became their enemy and fought against them.”

But then Isaiah 63:11 “Then He remembered the days of the past, the days of Moses and His people. Where is He who brought them out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit among the flock?”

Then, listen, here is how He leads us in His strength into His rest. Notice how us living in His perfect rest brings a double portion of glory to His name and therefore He gives us everything we need to live in victorious glory within His rest.

Is 63:12 “He made His glorious strength available at the right hand of Moses, divided the water before them to make an eternal name for Himself, to make an eternal name for Himself, and led them through the depths, like a horse in the wilderness, so that they did not stumble. Like cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest, You led your people this way to make a glorious name for yourself.”

You remember how Moses didn’t enter the promised land, we all thought – that was quite harsh – we needed to know that all we need to know is His voice, the strength in Moses’ right hand came not from human strength, no anger, no it was only in the knowing His voice… we need only know His voice and in the strength of that knowing… we speak to the waters ahead and tell them, command them, divide… says the Living God… because we know His voice… we can speak to mountains and they must move… this is the strength in Moses’ raised, submitted right hand, He raises it in acknowledgment of who it is who is speaking to the mountain. In his submitted, committed prayer, knowing the voice of his father, he commands that water… divide… and there in front of a million captive people… men, women and children of God… the waters keeping them from their Father, the waters holding them back from their wide open space, the water keeping them from their intimate place of worship, living in love, living in God’s favour … most importantly His rest… is removed here.

The water is removed… they walk through on dry ground… not only that, they, while walking are declaring the eternal name of their living God. Everything that kept them back, all their past rituals, all their past traditions, all their past alignments that have held them down, all their past agendas that kept them enslaved to man’s expectations, kept them entangled and embroiled in the lies and belief systems of the enemy they have been removed… as the Israelites, once captured, once entangled and enslaved by something that was, on the surface of things, was supposed to bring their nation glory in the natural. Living in Egypt should have been a hand up, a lifting of their nation into a new level of ‘success’, ‘opportunity’ or ‘business potential or opportunity’, should have been but became the thing that entrapped them, it became the thing that kept them shackled and unable to reach their God-given mandate as a nation to subdue all nations under them. They needed a rescue that cut off and denied all access, all possibility of dreaming of the past, being double minded and insecure in their hearts and minds of who they are and where they were going, but God…

God is greater, His intervention comes here in a magnificent way they could never imagine. Is 63:12-13 ‘to make an eternal name for Himself, and led them through the depths like a horse in the wilderness, so that they did not stumble.’

See that in order to bring glory to His Name, see that it had nothing to do with us – when we feel overwhelmed, not enough, why would God do any of this for me? – huh – it has/had and still has nothing to do with me… He does it to bring glory to His eternal name, because of who He is, who He was and who He will be… He will accomplish all He set out to… doesn’t depend on me, because I am unworthy, untrustworthy and unfaithful – I could never achieve the ‘goodness’ it would require to attain any of these things – only He is the one who can get right all that needs to be done.

He led them through the depths – He wants to take us to the depths of ourselves, depths of despair, anguish, disaster – it’s safe when we go with Him, He is able to bring us safely to the depths of our depression, anguish, despair and disaster – everything the enemy meant for our destruction – the Lord takes us gently, softly, carefully there to look at it in truth and with truth, there in that depth of despair, anguish, pain and seeming disaster He will bring truth, light, love and even healing. I can speak from personal experience, I ran from God for 10years in this area, ‘it hurts too much’, I would tell Him, ‘You can’t expect me to go over all this and be ok’. But, He led me, like a stallion in the wilderness I did not stumble and become entangled in those things again, He brought me through that wilderness… equipping me so that on the other side of pain, hurt and seeming disaster He brought me out, not looking to the right or left, no double-mindedness in me any longer, I know where my salvation comes from, I know where my redemption lies, I know who my salvation and best friend is… now that I have decided to place my hand in His, as was His invitation at the beginning of 2021, I am able to say He is my rock, He is the strength in my right hand and every time that water wants to come back in front of me, I raise my right hand and say, “look water, my God is the one, He is the one who takes my salvation through the depth, He is the one on whom my victory relies and like a horse through the wilderness He has already sent me through these rocky waters successfully to bring eternal glory to His name, not mine, that means there is no doubting His actions, as they do not rely on my actions.

Once I’m through these rocky waters, slowly, deliberately, carefully like leading slow oxen, Is 63:14 ‘Like cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest, You led your people this way to make a glorious name for yourself.’

The Spirit of the Lord, knowing we are weary, hard hit from the waters, He is waiting for us, He has prepared a banquet for me, He leads us into victorious rest with no strings attached, all the baggage is left behind to die in the water, all the strings that wanted to stay attached have been destroyed by the waters, by the horse riding without stumbling, He is good, He is gracious, He is kind, even in the going back through the places of hurt and pain, He brings refreshing, He brings renewing and He brings Himself a glorious name as we enter our rest…

Is 63:14 ‘You led your people this way to make a glorious name for yourself.’ What more glory is there than in saying, I have faced my giants and now sit in the presence of my King at His banquet table resting with Him in glorious victory, and every time despair, dejection, rejection, depression come knocking I remember that stallion with no stumbling looking at, but not taking part in those past hurts and knowing that without stumbling, looking to the left or right we addressed with our mighty right hand raised in submission we spoke to that lie and told it, it no longer has control over our minds, thoughts or emotions and the outcome the Lord has will come to us as we rest in His glorious victory because it brings glory to His eternal name, not mine, has nothing to do with me, only His unfailing character…

Go out and enjoy your week end, (the end of the week) and the weekend… knowing He has gone before you… He has invited you to go with Him and where you are going is into His rest… now and eternally!

Thank You, God! Thank You for your promises, praise Your holy name eternally… Jesus Christ is Lord and at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, eternally!

Isaiah 45:23 ‘Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear.’

Phil 2:10 ‘that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,’
